I can hardly believe that another weekend has arrived already. I think this last week was one of the fastest I’ve ever experienced.

Anyway…some good news for you to start your weekend off right!

In honor of July 4th and the sacrifices made by the men and women of the U.S. military, TANDBERG® and the Freedom Calls Foundation offered their video conferencing networks to military families nationwide. The free video conferencing calls were made available to military families at eight TANDBERG offices and 23 other sites across the country. This enabled them to connect with friends and family stationed in Iraq. The video conferencing was held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

This gave friends and family the opportunity to communicate face-to-face with troops located at one of five military installations in Iraq with Freedom Calls centers: Al Asad Airbase, Camp Taji, Camp Fallujah, Camp Victory (Baghdad) and Camp Taqaddum.

HUNDREDS of women could be saved by a new blood test developed in Melbourne that detects ovarian cancer in its early stages. It allows cancers that previously went undiagnosed until too late to be identified early enough for successful treatment.

The test is showing a 94 percent accuracy rate in clinical trials and should be available in September for $200.

The company plans to export the process to the US, Asia and Europe, and expects their test to reach the 99 percent accuracy. This would allow them to achieve status as a recognized screening test.

Rising concerns about climate change and increasing oil prices…not to mention continued anxiety over energy security has led to a rise in investments in renewable energy. In fact these investments reached record highs last year, according to a United Nations Environment Programme report released this week.

The public and investors have been watching world temperatures and fossil fuel prices climb higher and higher and it is increasingly obvious that the transition to a low-carbon society is imperative and inevitable.

Wind energy captured most of the new funding with over $50 billion and solar power has gained almost $30 billion.
