In Australia, the used by date is adhered to, but what annoys me about it, is it is thrown in the dumpster, when there are many needy places that it could go, if just one day over the date.
Many poor people who would benefit from this still good food just thrown away destined for the tip.
Would certainly be very nice to see this rule changed.

Very informative post. I usually forget to check expiration dates, but my daughters always point it out when I've picked up something close to its expiration date. Or god forbid, expired! :)

Excellent post!

I usually check the expiration date on all my foods (especially canned goods) but I had no idea that it wasn't illegal to sell "past it's prime" baby formula! That's outrageous!

I usually look at every expiration date when buying food of any kind, however, I was in a rush and forgot to check my Bagel purchase as Walmart just the other day. Got home and check, and the bagels expired JUNE 23rd ! ! I had to go all the way back to the store. ugh. Great post btw :)
