Wordless Wednesday

Posted at 3:11 pm under Pictures

A Japanese Air crew observed a strange set of clouds over the Sea of Okhotsk. This is a very rare type of cloud formation.

The clouds were observed last year from a Japan Coast Guard aircraft off the northeastern coast of Hokkaido.

The clouds floated just over the sea surface, stood over a half mile tall and stretched over 62 miles.

I wonder what causes such a unique cloud formation?

Indeed, this is unique. Seems like the clouds were jettisoned with an air stream moving for a long distance to have formed that shape.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Very cool photo, it almost looks like the clouds themselves are waves. It would be interesting to know what caused this and if its a natural thing does it occur anywhere else?..

This is a very unique cloud formation like waves on the shore. I wonder how it came about.
