Here’s a brand new twist to an old detective novel device.

There is a new free service called My Mobile Witness. Here is how it works:

If you find yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable or uneasy…perhaps you are letting a stranger into your home for instance. Take a picture of the person with your phone and simply message it to My Mobile Witness. Or, alternatively, you can send a quick text message to them as well. My Mobile Witness will time-stamp and store the message or picture and if something bad happens it will give law enforcement access to your “vault” of messages.

The whole idea is that if something happens, you have the ability to tell the person who is threatening you that there is a picture of them or a message telling about them that the police will have access to. The sender cannot retrieve the message or erase any pictures from the My Mobile Witness vault. Police are able to access the vault without a court order also.

Caution: This service is not a replacement for a 911 call in a threatening situation. It has the ability to thwart a crime, though.
