CBS Anchor Laura Diaz

Ms. Diaz was born in and has lived in California her entire life and is also a first generation Mexican American. When Ms. Diaz was born her parents were field laborers. Her family moved off the farm workers camp to Santa Clarita when she was four years old and she was raised in Santa Clarita from this point on. She graduated from William S. Hart High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

She is an eight-time Emmy Award winner and has also won two Golden Mike Awards in 2005 and 2006 for best feature reporting. In June 2005 she was able to interview incoming Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. This honor earned her a national Imagen Award in 2006.

In 1997 Laura Diaz was named lead anchor for KCBS-TV’s 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. This promotion made her the first female Hispanic weekday news anchor at an English language television station in LA. Laura Diaz is considered one of the leading Hispanic television journalists in the United States.

I live in Los Angeles, and Laura Diaz definitely brings the news to you. I didn’t realize how hard she has worked to get to where she was. She definitely is “Laura Diaz Anchor”. I wasn’t aware that news anchor Laura Diaz had an Imagen award. I thought only actors get those. Guess I have a lot ot learn. At either rate, great article!!!
