Happy Saturday! Good News for April 4, 2009

Wow…April REALLY sounds spring-like, doesn’t it? You would think it would have been alright for me to have packed away my family’s winter gear this last week. Alas, it looks like I gambled and lost because we are supposed to get 2-3 inches of snow tomorrow. Can you believe that?

Time for some good news, I think!



Hero Men Catch Toddler After 40-Foot Fall

toddlerTwo men are being hailed as heroes by police for catching a toddler who fell 40 feet from a third-story window of a Lawrence, Massachusetts home.

Robert Lemire was talking on his cell phone on Sunday evening when he looked and saw a toddler dangling from a window in a building across the street.

He ran across the street, where he met Alex Day who had been in another building at a Bible study meeting. Together they caught 18-month-old Caliah Clark before she hit the ground.

The child was taken to a hospital but is expected to be fine. Her father was taking care of a newborn at the time.


Brush Your Teeth, It Could Prevent a Heart Attack

brush_teeth_lgPeople with the most bacteria in their mouths are the most likely to have heart attacks.

A study has revealed that heart patients had higher numbers of bacteria in their mouths. This adds to growing evidence linking oral hygiene with overall health.

People with the most bacteria in their mouths were the most likely to have had heart attacks.

Doctors don’t know how bacteria is linked with heart attacks but studies have shown associations between gum disease and heart disease. It is thought that bacteria may set off general inflammation that in turn causes blood to clot.


Bite From Poisonous Spider Has Miraculous Side Effect

19570David Blancarte was paralyzed following a motorcycle accident over 20 years ago that nearly killed him. Then he was bitten by a brown recluse spider and was hospitalized. During some rehab following the bite, a nurse noticed a spasm in his leg and ran a test.

Less than a week later, he was walking again for the first time in 20 years. Apparently his nerves had been asleep.

“It’s a beautiful feeling that I have again,” he said.
