Recent Rains Benefit Spring Wildflowers in Texas

Cooler spring temperatures and rain should help bluebonnet blooms last longer and also help the flowering of late spring bloomers in Texas.

East of San Antonio there have been good sightings of Engelmann’s daisy, Texas ragwort, Drummond’s phlox and other early spring bloomers.

Late spring bloomers look to be ready to have a great showing. Upcoming winners will likely include black-eyed Susan, Mexican hat, Indian blanket and plains coreopsis.

Seasonal wildflowers have more to overcome than just the drought. They are being overrun by invasive plant species like turnip weed and bastard cabbage.

Some exotic plants are a concern because they displace plants that naturally occur in Texas and they don’t provide ideal wildlife habitat and native vegetation.

Anyone want to go scout out the rv parks to find a good one for this lovely showing?
