Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon Raises $58.9 Million

jlDespite the struggling economy, the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon from this year’s Labor Day event amounted to $58.9 million.

Although lower than the $60.5 million last year (and a record $65 million in 2008) Lewis was pleased with the support to help research and service programs of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.



Bearded Antelope Seen in the Wild

antelopeA photographer in Kenya recently came upon an animal that looked like a Thomson’s gazelle — but was covered with a thick coat of hair.

Experts are not sure what to think. The photographs are the only known example of this animal. It appears to be a younger female based on the body and the horn size.

This furry gazelle wasn’t rejected by its mother, meaning that whatever is causing the extra hair either wasn’t present at birth or that the condition isn’t causing obvious health problems.


Heroic Mailman Saves Lives While on the Job

Keith McVey…postal worker and local hero.

McVey, 53, has helped saved three people while on his mail route. Last week, he performed CPR on an unconscious man on the side of the road. Two years ago, he rescued a drowning girl from the lake. Almost 20 years ago, a teenager tried to take his life by jumping off a bridge. McVey, could not stop him from jumping but covered the teen with blankets until an ambulance arrived.
